چکیده

Perturbation of an organism's homeostasis by stress can trigger biological or behavioral adaptation and accelerate onset and course of several diseases. Signaling triggered by norepinephrine or epinephrine (via adrenergic receptors) and cortisol (through glucocorticoid receptors) has profound effects on dampening immune responses, accelerating cancer progression and increasing the risk of cardiovascular, metabolic, and colonic diseases. The Novel Coronavirus – A Snapshot of Current Knowledge

Another animal to human transmission of a coronavirus occurred in December 2019 on a live animal market in the Chinese city of Wuhan causing an epidemic in China, reaching now different continents. This minireview summarizes the research literature on the virological, clinical and epidemiological aspects of this epidemic published until end of February 2020.

Snapshot Centrality Indices in Dynamic FIFO Networks

The article introduces the concept of snapshot dynamic indices as centrality measures to analyse how the importance of nodes changes over time in dynamic networks. In particular, the dynamic stress-snapshot and dynamic betweenness snapshot are investigated. We present theoretical results on dynamic shortest paths in firstin first-out dynamic networks, and then introduce some algorithms for comp...

SnapShot: Mammalian Sirtuins

The mammalian sirtuins have emerged as critical regulators of cellular stress resistance, energy metabolism, and tumorigenesis. In some contexts, they delay the onset of age-related diseases and promote a healthy lifespan. The seven mammalian sirtuins, SIRT1-7, share a highly conserved NAD+-binding catalytic core domain although they exhibit distinct expression patterns, catalytic activities, a...

Transcriptomic analysis of the cardiac left ventricle in a rodent model of diabetic cardiomyopathy: molecular snapshot of a severe myocardial disease.

Heart disease is the major cause of death in diabetes, a disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and cardiovascular complications. Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is increasingly recognized as a major contributor to diastolic dysfunction and heart failure in diabetes, but its molecular basis has remained obscure, in part because of its multifactorial origins. Here we employed comparative ...

SnapShot: Hypoxia-Inducible Factors

Molecular oxygen (O2) is a key substrate for mitochondrial ATP production and numerous intracellular biochemical reactions. The maintenance of O2 homeostasis is therefore essential for the survival of most species. During O2 deprivation, mammalian cells rely on multiple adaptations mediated by the hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs), mTOR, autophagy, and the ER stress response. This SnapShot will ...
